about

It took Mark a long time to write a love song, most of the others seemed so corny and that's not where he wanted to go. Even when he met Grace, the love of his life, it's took him 3 years to put pen to paper. But here it is, an ode to the follies of youth, when lust seems like love, and the love's you have are shadows of the real thing. He's been with Grace for more than 6 years now, and the love he describes in the song is stronger than ever.

lyrics

I thought love was a letter that I'd written long ago
But I found out they were scribbles that were written in the chalk
Tall stories that I told when I thought I knew myself
Now I know I've found the one so I've written it in stone

And now loneliness no longer got its hold on me
I was half before, now I'm 2, becoming 1 finally
It seems that I'm escaping
From a pattern of my own making
Waking from a sleep which had no dreams

So now my cupboard of worry is empty
And every bag is full
Of the pictures she's been drawing of me
look down left at the lines she's drawn
Painted my fate with an artist hand
Colours and tones that I could never hope to see
Now I write in my little book of letters
Words that never struck before
Love's a hard song to try and sing along
But she taught me every word

And now loneliness no longer got its hold on me
I was half before, now I'm 2, becoming 1 finally
It seems that I'm escaping from the pattern of my own making
Waking from a sleep which had no dreams

I left it all in a cold hard place
Thinking that I'd never get to fill that space cuz
It's a world that I hadn't gone
Didn't have my string so I had to moonwalk
Making sure I had a map of the way
Too scared to pass the point of no return
Then she came and she gestured forward
Said doesn't even matter if we can't go backwards
Cuz I got you here with me
Don't need a light and forget your string
Leave all your luggage oh my lover
I can take it from here

And now loneliness no longer got its hold on me
I was half before, now I'm 2, becoming 1 finally
It seems that I'm escaping from a pattern of my own making
Waking from a sleep which had no dreams
